HELPFUL TIPS
BUFFER YOUR RENTAL TIME
Make sure you’ve planned enough time for your session in case something goes awry or things run long. You can easily add a 30-min buffer onto your shoot at checkout to be safe and avoid the higher overtime charges.
ARRIVAL TIME
If your rental starts at 9 am, please do NOT book your first client at 9 am. They often beat you to the door and then you have no setup or settle-in time. Give yourself a little space to arrive and unload, get things ready, and then warmly greet your client at the door.
MARKETING IMAGES
Show your clients the mood board, the scene photos, or the studio tour video by downloading these items over on our FREE MARKETING Gallery.
PRESET YOUR ALARM
Don’t go over your rental time. Preset an alarm for 10-15 minutes BEFORE your session ends to notify you it’s time to clean up and clear out.
THE STUDIO KEY
When entering, put the key on the keyhook inside the doorframe for safekeeping. Lock the studio door during your booking to prevent disruptions.
When you leave, ensure you’ve locked the door (pull the handle and check it). If you’re having trouble aligning the lock, use your foot to push the bottom of the door in.
Return the key to the lockbox and secure it. Double-check that the door and the lockbox are LOCKED. There is a $300 fee for not doing so.
If another renter is waiting, hand the key to them YOURSELF to avoid key charges. Make sure they acknowledge the handoff.
If you’re coming in behind another renter, ask them directly for the key before they leave (people have driven off with it).
YOU, THE RENTER, ARE THE RESPONSIBLE PARTY. IT IS YOUR JOB TO CLEAN UP AND RESET THE SPACE BEFORE YOU LEAVE.
YOU, THE RENTER, MUST BE THE LAST GUEST AND MUST LOCK THE DOOR AND KEEP TRACK OF THE KEY.
CLIENT TIPS
WARDROBE COLORS: Help guide your clients to choose colors that will complement the scenes for a cohesive look. Use the color palette in the marketing gallery as a guide.
HAIR AND MAKEUP: Have your clients arrive fully ready - with their hair and makeup complete and dressed in their first outfit.
This helps ensure you’re not wasting your studio time on them getting prepped, allowing you to get started quickly and have things flow more smoothly for your remaining clients.
MINI SESSION TIPS
<< SEE “ARRIVAL TIME” TIP TO THE LEFT**
COMMUNICATE ARRIVAL EXPECTATIONS
Let clients know beforehand when they should arrive (early is best). Have them wait for your signal to enter. This prevents clients from walking in and disturbing another mini-session that is in progress.
PREVENT DISRUPTIONS
Use the do not disturb sign provided for the front door and lock it to prevent disruptions. Holiday rentals are booked tightly together, so another photographer or their clients may walk in early on your shoot.
USE A TIMER FOR MULTIPLE CLIENTS
It’s easy to lose track of time when you’re in the creative zone of a shoot. We recommend that you set a timer for your mini-session clients. This helps your clients acknowledge that their time is ending and helps keep your event running on time.
EXPECT TIME TO RUN LONG
Mini Sessions tend to run long. Make sure to expect it and be sure you’ve buffered your time to avoid overtime fees.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
DO NOT LEAVE THE SPACE BEFORE YOUR CLIENT. YOU ARE IN CHARGE OF LOCKING THE DOOR AND CLEANING UP THE SPACE.
YOU MUST BE THE LAST PERSON TO EXIT. YOU MUST ENSURE THE LOCKING OF THE DOOR AND LOCKBOX.
FREQUENTLY ASKED Qs

We have NE facing windows.
From Sept-March, there is almost no direct morning light when we are open for rentals. Due to the seasonal sun being shorter and streaming on the opposite side of the building, the studio remains soft and diffused throughout the whole day.
When there is direct light in different seasons, it falls on the right wall of the studio only. The rest of the studio remains soft.
If you want to utilize the most natural light for the holiday sets, you should plan to shoot clients around 9am or 10am until about 3pm. We have a constant light on a rolling stand that you can add-on if you want a little boost for cloudy days our outside that brighter window.
SUNRISE / SUNSET:
Mid-October: Sunrise is at 7:30am / Sunset is at 6:45pm
Mid-November: Sunrise is at 7:00am / Sunset is at 5:30pm
Mid-December: Sunrise is at 7:20am / Sunset is at 5:30pm
Our Studio Light:
October has direct morning light only until about 9:30am on sunny days. Brightest studio light around 9:30-3pm.
November has early direct morning sun that is cleared before 8am. The studio remains soft and diffused all day. Brightest light in the studio will be 9:30am-2pm.
December has no direct morning sun. Brightest light around 10:00am-2:00pm.

Our holiday sets will be put in place and are not to be moved, except for sliding out the loveseat or moving the red chair from the fireplace corner if you’d like to stand instead.
You’re welcome to swap out a few smaller furniture pieces or props to customize a bit more for your clients. However, you’ll need to return all props and furniture to their original position when you’re done.
Please kindly consider the next guests who are walking in expecting things to be setup and ready to go.
If you’re looking to hang things, only use command strips that will easily peel off without leaving holes or peeling the fresh paint.
